Day in the Life: Hollywood by Way of Allie Marsh
This week’s Day in the Life feature comes from Allie Marsh, Senior Account Executive, Santa Monica. Allie is a Senior Account Executive on the digital lifestyle team based in Santa Monica. She’s been at Zeno for almost a year and has been in the industry for five years. While studying communications and journalism at Cal State Long Beach (GO BEACH) Allie jumped into PR by chance after responding to a random Craig’s List internship posting. It was love at first internship, and the first of many PR internships for Allie. Allie is from a small farm town in Northern California, located outside of Sacramento. She misses seeing the FFA students walking their sheep – on leashes – throughout town, but loves the diversity and excitement that Hollywood has to offer. Take it away Allie!
7:15 a.m. – Alarm goes off … Man, it’s already hot! I should have kept the AC on last night … I’m going to press snooze one or two more times.
7:30 a.m. – Alarm goes off again. Quickly browse through CNN, KTLA and Facebook before getting ready for the day ahead.
8:00 a.m. – Start my short but long commute to the office. Flipping between Carson Daly and Ryan Seacrest on the radio, too many commercials … switching to Spotify.
8:55 a.m. – Arrive at the Santa Monica office (if snow days exist, so should beach days) it’s so nice out today!
9:00 a.m. – Read through and file emails. Check out CNN, KTLA and Mashable to read more about some of the earlier news I skimmed, and to see what else is going on in the world and in tech.
10:15 a.m. – Breaking news circulates throughout the office - Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are expecting their first child together. I can literally hear the hearts breaking around me.
11:00 a.m. – Lots of mobile/tech news today, the daily client news report is going to be a long one. Seems like every day there’s a new product leak or rumor and lately they seem to be pretty accurate.
Noon: I’m starving! Decide to walk to the Mrs. Winston’s salad bar for a salad and smoothie. It’s a nice day out and for some strange reason the air smells like salt water even though we’re a little over three miles from the beach … not complaining!
2:00 p.m. – Time for an afternoon pick-me-up, grab a handful of M&Ms and a cup of green tea before heading into a meeting with our interns to go over the basics of building a media list and pitching.
3:00 p.m. – Office-wide meeting. Today we discussed trends within the industry, recent key learnings and brainstorm some ideas for a client launch event. Our conversation got a bit sidetracked, thanks to the World Cup and penalty kicks, but eventually we got back on track.
5:30 p.m. – The daily internal debate begins, to go to the gym or not …
6:05 p.m. – Decided to go to the gym, might as well burn some calories while avoiding traffic.
8:30 p.m. – Back in Hollywood. It’s warm again tonight, decide to pour a glass of wine and head to my apartment’s rooftop to take in the scenery before calling it a night.
