How to Survive Glastonbury Festival…Without Learning the Hard Way!

on Friday, May 30th, 2014 This week's #Fearless4Friday is getting you prepared for the Glastonbury Festival - taking place in the UK. Take it away, Lauren!
Last year I donned my wellies with my sleeping bag and raver paint in hand and attended Glastonbury Festival where I had the TIME OF MY LIFE! As it is that time of year again, I feel it is only fair to share the valuable things I picked up…the hard way!
Pick a sensible place to pitch your tents.
- You might be thinking ‘ahhh I’m right in the middle of Glasto, toilets to my left, food to my right. Think again. Soon you will be surrounded by fellow campers, and those toilets will begin to smell after a couple hours. Then the beloved food stalls will keep you awake when you eventually want to sleep – thanks to the drunken fool who just has to have one more burger.
Toilets…Long drops, shewees, portaloos and nose protection.
- If you get scared easily in the presence of other people’s bodily fluids, MAN UP! Glasto offers a range of toilets for its happy campers from long drops to portaloos to shee-pee cabins for the ladies. All have their pros and cons. Although the long drops are open and don’t smell as much, you have to be super careful not to drop anything down the hole. Why? Because you will never see it again. I didn’t mind the portaloos, but don’t waste your time looking for a clean one. Plug your nose (I recommend a congestion inhaler as it really blocks the smell), avoid putting ANYTHING on the floor, and get in and out as quickly as possible. Also don’t forget to carry a toilet roll and a torch at night!
Wet wipes are crucial.
- No one wants to waste their Glastonbury experience queuing for showers. Pack a ton of wet wipes and give yourself a little wipe down for ultimate festival freshness. There are hair washing tents and ‘salons’ at Glastonbury, but be prepared to wait a few hours. Instead, grab a can of dry hair shampoo/hat and release the hippy in you.
Pack for every possibility.
- Yes, the weather report may say the sun is set to shine all day, but this is Glastonbury Festival – famous for its downpours. It will rain. Pack wellies, waterproofs, and bin bags to put your belongings into.
Sleep with your valuables.
- I was lucky not to experience anyone creeping into my tent in the middle of the night, but I did hear about it happening to others. Always sleep with your wallet, camera, phone, and any other valuables..
Keep an open mind.
- My final tip is to arrive with an open mind. Drink cider, paint your face, put flowers in your hair, and have the time of your life. It truly is the best festival.
