My Birthday KISS: Keep It Simple
If you are lucky, it comes around every year.
I started my day with some simple pleasures -- a cup of coffee, a morning run, and a relaxing breakfast.
My runs are always a great time to think. Today it wasn't about a client challenge, my next business trip, or whatever hot family topic is currently on the table.
Rather, I thought about enjoying today fully and reflecting on all that makes me grateful and happy.
That I can step out and nail a 4 mile run (even more on other days). Today I wasn't wrapped up in my pace and time. Rather, I focused on my beautiful surroundings -- soaking in the ocean, palm trees and the simple joy of being outside.
I thought about my two independent, fearless daughters who are my everything. A simple "good morning mommy" and an Instagram birthday collage of photos that makes my heart melt. My husband who knows just how and when to make me laugh on any given day. A simple, precious gift.
And friends who matter and make a difference in my life.
I thought about how beyond lucky I am to work with people I truly respect and admire. We work hard and play hard. We dig deep for our clients and ourselves. We are a special kind of family. What a gift this is.
And I pictured what my mother would say to me today if she were able to express herself. She would have sent a birthday card underlining key words for added emphasis. She would call me on the phone and wish me a happy birthday "till 120 years." A Yiddish expression for a long life.
And then she would be happy to hear that I was already enjoying the day just the way I want -- with the simplest of pleasures.
No other gifts wanted or needed.
