Zeno Stratcom Cultural Day – April 21, Hari Kartini in Jakarta, Indonesia
On Friday April 19th, Zeno Stratcom Indonesia celebrated Hari Kartini early to commemorate the birth of Raden Ajeng Kartini, a leading feminist of women emancipation. While Hari Kartini is only celebrated once every year, the spirit of Kartini is alive and well within each and every Zenoid at Zeno Stratcom every day. Often we work against the norm to learn things that are still uncharted territory for us. In many aspects, Zeno is different. We are all challengers and willing to speak our minds and express our disagreement in order to reach a conclusion that is mutually beneficial.
Several activities were done that day to celebrate the birth of Indonesia’s national heroine. Besides wearing traditional Indonesian clothes such as Kebaya, Kain and Batik there were also several fun games that every Zenoid took part in. One of the major components when wearing Kebaya and Kain is to have an appropriate hair-do, especially when attending formal events such as weddings. This is called Kondean, which involves fixing the hair in such a fashion so as to create a sophisticated and traditional Indonesian look. As one of the games, Zeno added a twist to this. We asked the men to be the hairstylists and help put the hair in a bun (Konde) on one of their female team members. Being the challengers that they are, the Zeno men took on this challenge and succeeded in making a Konde for the chosen Zenoid females.
The second game was the Kain Challenge, where we took one man and one woman from each group to have their Kain put on appropriately by the other team members. This was surely an exciting game, as the team members had to put on the Kain properly, ensuring that the direction of the Batik was correct and that the fold was perfect.
To top it all off, the Zenoids went up to the third floor where our sister company resides and held a parade while wearing konde and kain to invite them to celebrate an early “Happy Kartini Day.”
The way we look at it, Zeno Stratcom is the Kartini School for young minds who want to venture into the PR world. We strive to retain freedom, equality and autonomy in deciding which path we take to be the best in everything we do and the best the industry has to offer
